HI,

I really never took many pictures, but just now came into possession of a Sony NEX-5 with 18-55mm lens (the 5K/B kit.)At the moment I'm just familiarizing myself with basic photography skills, shooting modes and such. So I really know nothing.

I see those lens filters hocked everywhere, also seem to be billed as lens protectors. It seems like a good idea to have the lens protected, but I can't tell for the life of me what I need to/should purchase, if anything. I do have a lens hood and intend to use that to protect from bumping the lens front (good?), but dust and dirt could still get in.

So yeah, that's basically my question. For very basic photography and just wanting to take good care of the lens, what if anything should I buy?

Any help will be apprecited.
